Monster
Why did I make a Tiki?I made a tiki man. They are very common "monster" like carvings that is supposed to be human like. I came up with this design the week before spring break. I knew that I was going to go to Florida, and I planned on surfing when I was there. I connected surfing to the tiki man after thinking about it for a while. I made my own touches and differences from a standard tiki man, and I am pleased with how it came out.

How I made my MonsterMaking the monster took a combination of skills that I learned over the course of this class. I started out making my monster by creating a pinch pot out of stoneware. I figured that making a pinch pot as the structure of my monster would allow it to be functional, for pens and pencils, as well as an interesting piece of art. I then made coils which I learned during the exposed coil cup and large coil(smoothed) projects. I used those coils for the top of the head and the arms. I then made small teeth out of B-Clay to give it a whiter look. Then, I made eyes with a triangular shape. I used scratch and attach method that we learned in the beginning of the class. Once I smoothed it and felt that it was done, I fired it. Then, I used different paints to give it a tiki look. After I painted it, I put it back to be fired.
My inspirationWatching the video in class about James DeRosso made me really think about what my monster should look like. I knew that this project would be hard to do, because I never was into monsters. I struggled coming up with the body for it. All monsters have eyes, mouth, arms, and some have spikes. That was not the issue. I started out sketching an alien like monster. After looking at it and thinking, I knew that this was't right for me. Eventually I came up with a tiki.
