Reflection
My favorite project to create was the wheel throwing project. It was the most rewarding project that I completed. This project challenged me the most. I failed many times before I came out with a piece that I liked.
The project that I had the most difficulty on was the wheel throwing project. It was the most challenging project, which is why it was optional. It took my many tries to get what I wanted. I was able to overcome this struggle with the help of Mrs. Barrens. After I made my piece, it was aways break off of the base right as I was about to stop the wheel. Mrs. Barrens helped me with the structuring of my piece which allowed it to survive the wheel.
I came into ceramics knowing absolutely nothing about clay and the process of making a piece. I took this class because I needed the credit to graduate. Walking into it, I didn't think I would get anything valuable out of the class. Shortly after, I was proven wrong. I learned how to make a pinch pot, how to smooth the clay using a rib, that there are different types of clay, and how to glaze. I learned how to make coils, shapes, and much more. We started out making a pinch pot, which I had done in elementary school. Making a pinch pot is the most simple project that one can do. What I didn't realize is that it had so many different uses. I used it for the organic piece and the monster piece. Ceramics is all about creativity, but it still remains simple. Although the pinch pot is simple, it has so many applications to other projects and designs that start with it. At the end of the day, I learned a lot about the art of ceramics and the passion that people have for it. I now know how to make many different styles of work, many different artists, and many different techniques. I learned terms for thing that I have never heard before(like a rib). And the biggest bonus, I have some cool pieces that I made that I get to take home to my parents. Thanks for a great semester!
